Fall 2023 Newsletter

Fall is a time of slowing down and beginning to savor the subtle and not so subtle shifts in the temperature, the quality and intensity of light, and the cooler breeze, without the weight of the summer humidity.  It’s a time to exhale.

Our summer wrapped up with the Wayfinding through Grief in the Company of Horses retreat in late September. The day was magical with the weather perfectly poised to support our participants’ powerful experiences with the herd. There was laughter as we created our art together and tears as we circled under the trees and shared our stories. I am honored and grateful to have hosted such a meaningful day and thank each of you who were able to come and share your wisdom and vulnerability. And that includes my cofacilitators, Jenny Rousseau and Pat Kosdan.

Spreading the Word

September offered me an invitation to talk with Chris McDonald on her Holistic Counselors Podcast about what psychotherapy and wellness incorporating horses is all about. Often called Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Chris asked some deep questions and allowed plenty of space for my flurry of details and stories. Please take a listen by following the link below, and let me know what you think and what other questions you may have!

Just in time for Giving Tuesday – Fiscal Sponsorship with Horses for Mental Health

We are closing out the year with a long awaited and much anticipated announcement: we can now accept donations to support the care of our herd and increase access to potential clients!

UWF has created a partnership with Horses for Mental Health, a 501C3 corporation, whose mission is to expand the role horses play in mental health and well-being, globally.   HMH now serves as our fiscal sponsor. When you donate to HMH, your funds are designated for Unbridled Way Forward to save lives— both horse & human.

UWF is a mental health practice, not a board directed, non-profit organization. While the work we do is modeled on my years of working in nonprofits, until now, supportive and interested people have not been able to donate to UWF and receive a tax deduction.

While there are limitless opportunities, we have targeted 3 primary areas of need:

  • Session Fee Scholarships

  • Aging Horses Fund

  • Emergency Veterinary Expenses.

Gratitude and Appreciation

I am so encouraged by the interest in and enthusiasm for the power of incorporating horses into wellbeing and mental health. We are honored to walk with people every day who are creating their unique path forward into the future, inviting horses to be part of their journey.

Wishing you all the very best in a season of giving and remembering.

Warmly

Amanda
